The Daniel Mucatel School
P.S. 115 is a school community that measures its success one child at a time. This is accomplished by ongoing, collaborative efforts on the part of our students, parents, staff, supervisors and community.
P. S. 115 is proud to showcase our mathematics classrooms. Visitors will see the workshop model, use of hands on manipulatives, the use of games to enrich and extend learning as well as learning through exploration which is teacher facilitated. Classroom environment is math rich.
In literacy, attention is focused on our units of study and the writing process. Collaborative planning is an essential component on all grades.
Detailed attention has been paid to the classroom environments: class libraries, meeting areas and flow of the day.
The focus in our math and literacy blocks is on the Principles of Learning: accountable talk, organizing for effort, clear expectations, and academic rigor.

Project Arts
As a winner of the 2004-2006 Center for Arts Education Grant we have worked extensively this past year to integrate arts into our social studies curriculum.
The building showcases an arts rich environment and classroom teachers work in collaboration with our arts specialists to take the arts out of isolation.
A Beaumont Grant for 2005 will utilize laptop computers on the fifth grade to integrate technology into NYS social studies curriculum. This is in partnership with the Brooklyn Public Library. |
